MUA Secrets: All About the Base

The perfect base basics, including where to shop and professional discount products.

Primer

You need primer. Why? It’s going to give your freshly cleansed and moisturized face the most perfect canvas. Some smooth, some hydrate, some control shine and a special few do all of the above! The key is making sure you have an even layer over your entire face before applying foundation. Eyeshadow primer is especially important for eye makeup, and primers for lips and lashes do wonders too.

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer $46– This is a new product from Dermalogica and it does an amazing job smoothing lines, providing all day wear, and not clogging any pores. Shop here

To get this from a professional Dermalogica retailer, message me at erika@itbeginswithabagel.com

Too Faced Hangover Primer $32– I don’t know if I love this because it’s a great primer or it because it smells so amazing (coconut water) and I get a kick out of the name. To make it on this list I’m guessing both! Shop here

Foundation

Liquid or powder. Whichever you prefer. Apply your foundation after your primer. Be sure to use a shade that blends seamlessly into your neck. Use a foundation brush for best results and set with powder.

Concealer

Please, never use your foundation as an under-eye concealer. It will look cakey and sometimes orange at the least. To hide dark circles, use one of these bad boys. Use a concealer brush or pat with your ring finger (the weakest finger… Unless you got a giant rock) from the outer to inner corner.

Trish Mcevoy Flawless Concealer $38.50– The best at covering dark circles, without a doubt. I bought this concealer one hour out of esthetic school with about $40 total to my name and I never regretted it.  Shop here

Nars Creamy Concealer $29– Amazing crease-free/cake-free coverage. Works well at covering blemishes also and never makes me break out. Shop here

Blush

Benefit Cha Cha Tint, Posie Tint and Benetint $30– I love all their tints. They look amazing on lips and cheeks. Cha Cha Tint looks amazing on golden/olive complexions or light complexions with a tan, Benetint looks amazing on girls with darker hair, and Posie Tint is my go-to for light complexions with blonde hair. Shop here

Benefit Coralista $29– Perfect blush, especially with a bronzed look or in conjunction with Cha Cha Tint. It has a slight shimmer to it making it a gorgeous highlighter on top of any blush.

Glo Minerals Powder Cheek Stain $26– This one shade product (Rosy) is so gorgeous and I love it all day, year round. Shop here To get this from a professional Glo Minerals Retailer, message me at Erika@itbeginswithabagel.com
